I'm seriously crapping out these days. Sleep patterns are screwed up, i'm nauseous and headachey and brain dead, and I have no idea what's causing it. had a checkup last monday so if it's as simple as low iron or some such it'll come up. Otherwise I don't know what to do. |

Kitty integration
Odin was a lot calmer than I expected after spending a godawful amount of time being shipped. He let out a meow or two, then laid down in his carrier for the ride home. I elected to leave him in it til I got him into the house, since he seemed comfortable enough and I still had to get him from car to door. I introduced him to R & G (R sniffed him once and then went about his business; G refused to come down from his stair and hissed a little), showed him a few spots and then he set off on a self-directed tour. Eventually I carried him into my room and he slept in the bed with me. R & G didn't take up their usual posts at my head and foot, so I don't think they liked that. This morning I sucked up R & G to make it up to them, while Odin went exploring and got upset that I wouldn't open the upstairs bedroom doors. After telling him no and then ignoring his complaints for about 20 minutes, I tried carrying him back downstairs; he did not care for that and clawed up my shoulder to tell me so. I left them all pointedly avoiding one another this morning. I hope they'll have worked out some territorial compromises by this evening. As Krikor put it, my boys are all "See all this space here, here and over there? That's all ours. You can have whatever's left." Odin was last seen staking a claim on the bathroom. Other than his demands for upstairs access, he's been pretty chill about this whole ordeal. He wasn't exactly cuddly but slept next to me all night, and hasn't tried to hide anywhere so much as find a place that can be his. Tonight I'll bring home a new cat tree, which I hope will help the limited number of hangouts problem. |

Busy morning!
Once I (finally) made it out of bed, I proceeded to: - empty the dishwasher - run the ice-cream maker on the second batch of mango - wash two pounds of strawberries - make beef stroganoff - remove one mattress from my princess-and-the-pea bed for the incoming houseguest - stop at McDonald's for a free coffee - take a picture of the pretty tree with the pink flowers - stop at the garden center for bulb food and critter ridder - walk about six blocks carrying garden supplies and strawberries and beef stroganoff, because the streetcars dried up and blew away while I was shopping My order from Breck's Bulbs arrived yesterday!* I put a couple of iris bulbs down but otherwise held off til I could get squirrel repellent. Tonight I'm going to Robert Sawyer's book launch, tomorrow it's going to rain - I guess tomorrow evening is the soonest I'll get them in the ground, but more likely Saturday after the vet appointments. Anybody wanna drive me to the airport on Saturday night? *I was a little disappointed that the roots didn't sproing into fully-grown plants in bloom when I opened the box. |

Kitties
I have vet appointments for Guildenstern and Rosencrantz this Saturday, which I hope will not end in tears. I booked them separately but I still need to figure out how to get Guildenstern there and back - he's so traumatized by that little falling-off-the-deck incident a couple years back that he freaks out when I try to get him in the carrier, which is how I ended up in tears, and also bleeding, the 2nd-last time I tried it. Last year I managed to get him in there but he got so scared he peed in it. I'm thinking this year I'll try carrying him, with a collar and leash on for when he slices me up enough to drop him. Saturday night I need to go to the airport to pick up Odin, the newest addition to the family - I'm adopting him from friends who can no longer keep him. He's a big sweetie, and apparently a total wuss. Hopefully that means he will get along fine with my boys. I may also have a new human in the house - a friend-of-a-friend is coming into town for an interview this weekend. If he gets it he'll be commuting here from Montreal for a while, and wants to rent the little room for when he's in town. Also, my hyacinths and daffodils are up. |

Too much!
My mom and stepdad celebrate their 25th anniversary in June. My brother Troy is getting married in August. My father is apparently marrying his longtime partner (it seems silly to call her his girlfriend after nearly 30 years together) this summer as well. My youngest brother is getting married in November. How the hell am I going to make it to all of these things without going bankrupt? |

I got up all early and everything. Today I was planning to go to work at 8:30, leave at 4:30 and run some errands on the way home. Instead, I'm feeling all crappy and I called in sick. At this rate I'm going to spend my vacation on sick days this year. Maybe I can get some house things done. |

Flowers flowers flowers!
I am very excited about my yard this year. The back yard is going to be a nightmare - my neighbours built a fence last summer that killed most of the sunlight to my vegetable garden, so I'll have to pull up all the blackberries on the other side of the yard to make room. I noticed that the ugly shed I don't use is sitting in a pretty good patch of sun, too - no idea whether I'll be able to move the thing though. Anyway, the front yard gets a little better every year as I trial-and-error various perennials. This year I pored over the Breck's catalog and just put in an order for the following: 3 Lily Tree bulbs - pale yellow flowers with pink edging Discovery Dutch Iris - deep blue, pack of 50 bulbs 6 Dutch Astilbes - two white, two silvery-blue and two deep red (and two pink ones which are going to my boss) 2 Grecian Rose - orange flowers 2 Orange Glory Flower 1 Night Embers Everblooming Double Daylily - burgundy with yellow edging 1 Tree Dahlia - pale purple flowers 1 William Guiness Columbine - deep purple blossoms with white or yellow edges All are shade-tolerant perennials. The astilbes want full shade, so the red ones are going in the gloomy patch next to the front step, the whites and blues in the back next to the new fence. The orange roses and glory flowers are going on the back patio, and the rest is for the front yard. I have a map. The new babies don't arrive until planting time (end of May-ish) so I'll have to be content with prepping the yard for their arrival - and of course getting a viable veggie patch established in the back, and starting all of those seeds. Did I mention that I had grown a good 15-20 orange tomato plants from seed last year? And that the fence went up just in time to stop them from flowering? Grr. |

Money money money
Worrying about bill payments is not conducive to sleeping. :( I had a couple of really high bills in January, and the bonuses that were expected this paycheck have been postponed until further notice, and just for extra credit I lost my metropass last week. Retiling the bathroom floor grew to include replacing the bathroom sink - the old one was too corroded to put back in - so I owe Garth $300 for materials for that project. At this rate I'll get out of debt somewhere around retirement age. Anyway - poring over my finances & deciding what to pay when got me too wired to sleep. I stayed up watching stupid TV until I finally fell asleep on the couch. I'm groggy now. I think I'll walk to work so I don't have to buy tokens. Or not, since the world was covered in ice this morning. I probably could have slid to work, but it seemed risky. Current Mood: worried |

Need to cheer up, stat
[6PM edit: am feeling *much* better now. thanks for the responses guys.] I'm close to emotional meltdown today - my faith in humanity tanking, wishing I could purge about 8 years of my life, that sort of thing. And since I still have 4 hours of workday to get through, I need to snap out of it. If I can make it through the next 4 hours, the dinner party I'm going to after work promises to be full of nice and/or interesting people - that should help restore a few fibers to my soul. Any recommendations? So far all I can think of is Cute Overload. [And this horror did not improve anything. When your boyfriend tells you either your daughter goes or he goes, the correct answer is "You go." Not what this woman did. :( ] |
